The deal with this gem of a burger joint is that you get to dress your burger at the condiments bar. The fries are always fresh & the house is always packed. So if you go for lunch, you might want to call your order in first!!
It is easy to get to but parking may be the biggest hassle. Good luck with that in "Da Creek"

The burger's from this place are actually really good. You can tell the meat is quality and this price is pretty much unbeatable (five bucks, and the burgers are massive). The inside probably has never been remodeled, giving you an old school burger joint feeling when your in the place. The burger came out quick and was cooked exactly how I specified. George's is a good lunch spot if your looking for a quick delicious burger! Only knock is parking totally sucks!
I got a cheeseburger, medium-well, everything but mayo, almost every Friday for years - including the years when Mr. Nguyen was at the grill. I'd walk in on Friday and they'd call me by name.
There was something poetic and comforting about the little styrofoam container with the perfect brown buns holding the dark, cooked meat, green lettuce, yellow cheese and mustard, bright red tomato, and slice of purple onion. Hot, fresh, honest, and consistent.
It's still that way, despite some personnel changes. In fact, since both my boys were born in the morning at Kaiser next door, by the time they were tucked in safe and the wife was asleep I went next door each time for a celebratory cheeseburger, medium-well, everything but mayo.
The fries are a bit boring, and the drinks should get free refills. And the decor is completely 70s den. But this is a wonderful place. I still go there weekly.

George's & their coffee-shop neighbor are the things I miss most about working in the Crack.
Jeff & Co. make absolutely delicious burgers, cooked to order with freshly ground beef. No f'in around. You add yer own toppings. An order of fries is enough for two folks. I always ask for a leaf of lettuce, as they only have it shredded on the condiment bar. And I add 1000 island from the salad bar. Goddam, I'm salivating just thinking about it.
I also love that they close down for weeks at a time to go on vacation, although I am chagrined when I find that they have done so when I want a flippin' burger. Oh well, I usually need coffee too.

George's is a simple place- but the burger is pretty tasty. They only have a few things on the menu (burger, cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger, BLT, fries, etc). They also only take cash, but I got a burger, a child's burger, fries and two drinks for about $12 - so it's cheap! I liked that the brgers came without toppings and then they have a toppings bar with onion, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, ketchup, mustard and mayo. So you can make it however you want. The decor is very old-fashioned and, for some reason, reminds me of the mid-west. Also, the "children's menu" is posted to the right of the cash register and not with the big menu above. My son got a kid's size burger and it was just perfect for him.
So the cool thing about this place is that their beef is 100% fresh and ground fresh on premises everyday. It's a simple place : fries and burgers (I think they also offer chicken) and I can walk there from work which is nice. Service is fairly quick and the burgers are tasty. Definateely makes you feel like you traveled 30-40 years back in time when you walk in. People are eating reading the newspaper, the whole expirience is upliftig and leisurly.

A darn good burger! Service is a bit slow, although it's probably due to the fact that they actually have to cook the food. Can also get crowded, which made it impossible to go inside w/ a stroller. They also only take cash, which meant we couldn't try the fries!

So this is what I've been looking for since I moved to the USA. A burger joint that delivers the goods I used to drool about in 50's era TV shows that I wasted my callow youth watching re-runs of.
First of all, it IS a joint, decorated by the people who created the set of "I love Lucy", orange Formica and enough wood on the walls to panel a fleet of Oldsmobile station wagons. We went at some random time on a Monday afternoon and it was crowded - always a good sign - but don't go expecting "fast" food.
The food is great though. For a couple of bucks and a few minutes more than a McDonald's, you get the real deal, cooked how you like, and plenty of it. Don't go expecting anything fancy though, strictly burgers, fries and hot-dogs.
Bring cash, your credit card is only good for spreading your ketchup on the bun.

If you're looking for a huge effing burger, cooked the way you like it ("burnt to a crisp or bloody as hell?") These is some good eats. Greasy-spoon, orange-formica-topped tables, not much finish left on the wood club chairs, and da mama behind the counter with the strawberry-print hankie on her head kind of good eats. The menu has only slightly more choices than In-and-Out: they have sandwiches, BLTs, and "double hot dogs". Uh, haven't tried those yet. I must say, though, I think they ARE better than In-an-Out. The fries are frozen, so I-n-O has them beat there, but for what they are, the burgers are WAY better.
Really I'm just yelping about this place to further the accuracy of the star rating. Shout out to my hooker-heels lovin friend, Megs. This review is dedicated to her. Even though she's a tofu-loving vegetarian. Sorry Megs, but George's doesn't do avocado or Veggie burgers. They DO make grilled cheese sandwiches on the same grill they make the burgers though!

I feel like I need to have my foodie-in-training card revoked for saying this, but the downside to living in Walnut Creek is the lack of In-N-Out. We were really hoping George's would correct this. The big problem was actually getting in there to eat. I don't get home from work until 7, and George's closes at 8 p.m. (and is closed Sunday's). We finally got in there Friday night (2 minutes before closing), and found that they make a really, really good burger. It's almost like a mad scientist ran an In-N-Out Cheeseburger through an amazing expand-o ray and made it bigger, albeit in the process the burger lost 5% of its flavor. Again, that might have had something to do with the fact that we came near closing time and didn't have grilled onions or french fries. Given the closest In-N-Out is in San Ramon and gas seems set on headed toward either an arm or a leg a gallon, I'm sure there will be another opportunity for George's to impress us more. You could taste the freshness in the burger though, and that's always a good sign.
About the only bad thing I can say about the place is that it's really inconvenient to eat there. If it were just open until 9 p.m., we'd probably eat there a time or two a month out..
I'm from San Francisco, but if I'm anywhere near Walnut Creek, I make it a point to stop by. Even if I've already eaten, I find ways to slam one of them burgers down. Unlike other places where they get their frozen patties off a truck in the morning, these are trimmed, carved, and grounded from some serious grade beef. I, for one, like my burgers plain, but if you're into drowning and dressing up your burger, they have an excellent condiments bar. Burgers so juicy makes you want to slap someone!

I think I gave this place too many tries. After reading all the yelp reviews, I was so hyped to try it out. I've been looking for good food in WC. Not only is this place a tad overpriced, but the meat - can be A LOT BETTER. The burgers I had from here were grainy - and juicy - but in a bad artery clogging way.

the best burger if i had in the bay. im from l.a. but i visit every now and then and i HAVE to stop by georges for thier mouth watering burgers. everything else is whatevers but the burgers are to die for. i always get it on a french roll which costs extra. the burger would rock extra hard if they had an option to add fried egg on it like they do at the fatburger chains down south. maybe next time ill bring my own egg and ask if they can add it to my burger. sounds weird for those who havent had a fatburger but those who know, know. 1 bad thing about the place is they charge for refills. who does that anymore? it only costs then a few cents, why charge extra? even though they get 4 stars from me.

If you're ever in Walnut Creek and in the mood for a burger George's in the place to hit. The beef is grounded fresh daily and the condiments are always fresh. Myself i like to get the bacon burger and I tell you the bacon is no joke. It literally stands out on the burger and of course its got to be medium rare no doubt about that you have to taste the freshness of the beef. Fries are always freshly cooked. It does tend to get busy cause Kaiser Permanente is right next to it and with the closing of Taxi's Burgers, George's is getting all the clientele and I'm not hating on that. Taxi's is too expensive for a burger but can't complain cause they give Kaiser employee's 10% discount. I suggest if you come here to get there before 12 noon. As an employee of Kaiser lunch starts @ 1230 p.m. So it will definitely be hard to get a table there. You'll want to come here @ least once a week I guarantee that!
Hands down the best burger in the area, Georges has been a delight for many years. My Grandmother used to say the sign of a good burger is when the juice runs down your arm when you eat it. This is the real deal. The burgers are perfectly cooked and moist. They have a little condiment bar where you can add what you like to the burger and it is as tasty as can be. The only downside is the parking situation and that they just don't stay open late enough. Truly a place for a burger-lover to go.

Perfect Hamburger made with their OWN HAMBURGER MEAT. This is the most scrumptious delicate flavored flat top grill hamburger patty you will ever have.
Good pricing.
Which leads us to the bad. They need to learn to grill onions... I go without. Shakes are spit out of some machine. Skip it. The topping bar is too small and feels out of place.
The decor is like walking through some 60 year old's (which there are quite a few of dining) Liberal Walnut Creek Brady Bunch wood panel living/dining room nightmare. At least if it was Republican Brentwood trailer park it would be up-to-date wood paneling, if there is such a thing. While munching on your delicious patty you can lean back and take in the 30 year past its prime acoustic ceiling or lean forward and gaze upon 15 year past its prime dining floor carpet. The trash cans are a perennial problem; they seem to always be filled. I think I recall they are the awful push the door smear your hand in ketchup & soda pop while you empty your tray.
The nice elder lady behind the counter is curt but proficient on the register with a smile when appropriate. The kitchen, plates and silverware are impeccable clean.
I highly recommend eating here ( I do once a month) but bring your rose tinted sunglasses. I ask Meg to wear a low-cut top to keep my eyes busy. To the Owners: gut everything in the dining room use the cement floor and bare walls and ceiling and you'd be 1000% better off.

They should rename this place crack burger. The best part about this place is how if you listen carefully you can actually hear your heart slow down and miss beats. The condiment bar is awesome. You can load up your burger with as much stuff as you want. I now no longer work in Walnut Creek so I haven't been in a few months. :(
The one downside to this place is that you will occasionally run into a group of seniors who like to take their sweet ass time. You would think that after 20 years they would know the menu by now.

I've grown up in Walnut Creek, and this place has been around as long as I can remember. By and large the best burgers in the area, George's has been a staple for me since I was a little kid. It's a little bit pricey, but they ground their beef every day and cook your burger to order. If you're in the area, I would definitely recommend George's if you want a great burger.
Well, I really wanted to try this place. I really did, I even drove for twenty minutes to get here and find parking (which was hard, park at Whole Foods and walk over if you come here, save yourself the agony). I finally get to the door to find out they are CASH ONLY!!! So, unfortunately I had to walk and eat elsewhere. To be fair, I haven't actually eaten here, and I'm sure it has great food, but they never gave me the chance. I'm one of the millions of Americans that never carries cash on me except on rare occassions. George's, get with the program, find yourself a merchant services company. Consider this your invitation to the 21st century.
Gotta give some love to this place, diner style, they serve up a mean burger. If only they would get a liquor license or serve milkshakes, and I would be addicted, and give them the coveted fifth star. One of the things I really like about this place is, its about the burger, not some swanky seating or lighting or artwork. The cashier is a little gruff, as being our first time, we had to take a second to figure out what we wanted, but its a burger joint, so how freakin hard is that..... guess what, we order a burger. Very Good!!!
Now if we could just get them to serve beer, or even a bottled orange Crush.
Yup. It's a five star joint. I've been going here since I was a kid. My mom used to bring me here so it's kind of a tradition for me. The only thing that's changed in the twenty years I've been going there is that George doesn't actually own the place anymore (but the new owner and staff are just as awesome). You can always count on the wood paneling, orange vinyl seats, fully stocked fixin's bar and the best damn burger around.

Great hamburgers are served quickly with a smile in this little place just off Main. I love the fact they are in a little strip mass so I don't have to hunt for parking on a Saturday night. The burgers are very fresh and cooked to order. The did a good job making mine medium rare. Personally, I like a bit thinker burger so I can really enjoy the juices of the meat but for $5 I can't complain. The fixens bar is great, too. The tomatoes are very ripe and full of flavor. I really liked the fries, as well. My wife wasn't too impressed with the whole experience, though. She found it marginally better than a fast food burger. Next time I'll get a double cheese burger to see if that satisfies my ultra-meat cravings.
A small burger joint that's been around for a long long long time. The hamburgers here are my favorite in the East Bay. A little more expensive than others, but well worth it. Large, juicy burgers that, for lack of a better word, are orgasmic. Doubt me? Check your pants after having one... that stuff may, or may not, be mayo. What seems to be a dying practice, you can still get your burger cooked to order. No dry-ass hockey pucks here, unless you want it that way (and if you do, go to Micky D's... you don't deserve to eat here).
Plenty of fresh do-it-yourself fixins, really tasty/never soggy fries, and good shakes too. They do charge for refills, but who cares... you didn't come here for the Sprite, did ya?

Another place from my childhood that hasn't changed much. Well, except the prices.
Their burgers are as good as I remember them... moist and juicy, made to order, on a toasted bun. What is especially nice is their condiment bar... everything is super fresh and crispy. The pickles snap nicely when you bite into 'em... yum.
The people here are extraordinarily friendly. I also love the kitschy diner decor that's existed there as far as I can remember. So nice to see that they haven't really changed in the ever-changing shopscape of Walnut Creek.

Simply the best burgers in the bay!! If I'm ever in the eastbay, I'll stop by. It's all about the meat: really lean and grounded daily. All I need is a little ketchep and mayo and I'm a happy man. The fries are crispy and you get a good helping. For all those who complain about it being a little pricey....it's WORTH it. If you want to only spend $5 for a hamburger meal, go to McDonald's and get your frozen meat patties.
The decor is a little old-school, but what you want to do? Kick it there for a couple hours? It's all about the food baby. Also, the owners are the nicest people you'll ever meet.
Just basic decent burgers with the standard fixings on the side that you put on yourself. I asked for Medium, and they gave me medium. Nothing special about this place that rocked my world and nothing that was awful. I would rather eat at In-n-out or Nation's.
Great burger but soo plain. You cant really mess up a hamburger but this place has no creativty. All you get is jus the burger or cheese if you want it. Even the bacon was overcooked so if you wnat a simple burger you can go there but make sure its open. The hours depends on whether george is in town or wants to be open. One time went around 3 to check how late they were open going to make plans to get a bite before they closed at 8. We arrived at 6:30 and the lights were off. Another time we went around lunch time on a weekend and it was closed because george was fishing.
A proper burger, many can mess this simple task up, but Georges does it right.... the only burger joint I know that grounds their own meat daily. Fresh, tasty and to the point....!
Ever go to someone's BBQ just because you KNOW that they are gonna have the biggest, juciest, meatiest hot burgers in the world? Hmm? Fuck me. These are some amazing burgers. Grilled to order, and they will even make the burger bleed like a hemophiliac in a pressure cooker. All the outdoor picnic fixins you could want at a fixins bar. You aint gonna find gorgonzola or avacado here, so keep walking in your jerk retro Roos, Tyler. Orange formica tables, orange vinyl seats. Stuffed fucking bass on the wall. I mean, how friggin sweet? It looks like the set of an Orbitz commercial. An amazingly cheap place to unbutton your pants and throw down Brooklyn-style on a burger before a flick.

Don't let the looks of this place turn you off. Ignore the dark wood paneling, orange formica tabletops, and stuffed bass mounted on the wall. Just notice the neon sign that says "Best Burgers In Town" because they mean it! This place just gets it right. The menu is simple, the food is excellent, and the staff is really friendly. Of all the times I've been to George's they've only gotten my order wrong once (forgot the cheese on a cheeseburger) and they were so apologetic and even threw in an extra order of fries for my trouble. If you're not in the mood for a hearty burger, their BLTs are equally excellent.

Upon the recommendation of Heidi A, a former resident of the WC, I decided to check out George's today on my lunch break and...
Oh. My. God! Hamburger Heaven! *cue harp strings*
I was served a gigantic, juicy, steamy, cooked to perfection, lovely piece of carcass served on a toasty bun! I could then take my burger to a self serve bar to customize my fixins, apart from the yummy grilled onions I had ordered. My burger was so juicy I was afraid to set it down, so I just devoured it, bit by bit. The basket o' fries was so large I had to split it with a friend.
I will definitely be back! It's so good I almost wish I hadn't tried it! It's gonna be hell on those New Year's resolutions!

Seriously...this place is a prime example of how lame some people are. This is just a fried burger, nothing more, nothing less. Better than McDonald's but no where close to In&Out or Clarke's or Val's.
Yeah, their Burgers are good, but definitely not as good as people are making them out to be. The place is pretty dang pricey and the cash only thing is annoying as hell.

i am not a burger person but i will drive through the tunnel for a burger at george's.
i love the simple menu - they don't offer burgers named after travel destinations and they don't have goat cheese or sun dried tomatoes as topping options.
i love the do-it-yourself condiment section. simple and basic burger accessories - lettuce, tomato, onion. period.
i dig the unchanged, retro without trying, orange formica based setting.
but it's really the burger that draws me there. you can tell that they grind their own meat because it tastes so fresh. this place really puts all those fancy gourmet burger places to shame.
