A friend a long time ago once took me here for the first time. Ever since that initial introduction, it has been a staple of mine and i have turned many on to this place.
The food tastes great! It's probably not what you'd want to eat all the time, but every once and a while it's good. The cheesesteak lunch is a pretty solid choice i'd recommend, especially if you're a first timer. It comes with the cheesesteak, fries and a drink, but it's a ton of food! I also heard that they have good brugers though i have not tried them myself. But all in all, i would have no doubt recommending this place to anyone if they are in the mood for some comfort type, cheesesteak and fries goodness!
Still searching for a hoagie that would bring back memories of the ones I grew up with in the North Beach of my adolescent years.
I've seen them over the years and finally decided to give them a try. It was pretty close or could it just be a fading mind,,,
Next time, I decided to bring home one of their pepper cheesesteaks and some garlic fries. That was a hit with the Mrs.
So, when a high protein and carb meal is craved, I'll be by!
Yummy food.
...but it's making me fat and I'm beginning to look like a cheesesteak myself.
Beware of tasty, yummy, cheesy cheesesteaks!!!!!

This place was super packed for lunch. I'm not from Philly but I think the Philly cheesesteak is very good. I like the bread they use and the portion def is filling! I should have just eaten half and taken the other half home for dinner, but no, the piglet in me wanted to eat the whole thing. They keep the beef piping freaking hot cause I burned the top part of my lip. I was trying to take a bite and it was so good that it was burning my lip but I wouldn't let go. I ended up soaking my lip in my iced tea the rest of lunch. No scars or anything, but watch out for the temp of the sandwich.
I got the cheesteak combo which came with fries and a drink for about $10.80. It was a little pricey for lunch but it was worth it. I wouldn't go daily but I think once in a while is good. Now excuse me while I go work out for 20 hours to burn off that food . . .
I'm not a big cheesesteak guy, but my wife loves this place. I get the double bacon burger which is REALLY good!!!! Best burger in town!
Born and raised in Philly! I consider myself an expert so when I tell yous guys this place is da bomb....believe me. A much needed taste of home in an area overflowing with Whole Foods.

A definitive four star establishment, Jersey Joe's has personality and attitude. At least the interior decorations give that impression. Birkenstock wearing, clove cigarette smokin' Beserkley-ites (not to stereotype or anything) won't be happy. Nope, this is a consummate mid-Atlantic establishment. If you've ever been to Philly and had a cheesesteak, then you know the nation abounds with posers and imitators.
IMHO, the cheesesteak at Jersey Joe's is pretty much the real thing, albeit perhaps a bit less greasy. My wife and I just split one. Sure, I was jonesin' for a whole one, but I'm also jonesin' to keep my BMI in the vicinity of 25. Highly recommended, unless you're Dean Ornish. Hey Dean, the local Whole Foods is about two miles south on El Camino.

Mel + mushroom steak drenched in hot sauce - onions = LUV 4 EVA!!!
The burgers are, well, burgers... but why are you coming to Jersey Joe's to get a burger?! Complete heresy, I tell ya!
I love that this location is oh, say about 5 times bigger than their previous location on El Camino (you know where the Quizno's in Belmont is now? Yup, that used to be Jersey Joe's). Super casual spot to have a beer and watch some football (or basketball, baseball, whatever the season may be). Favorite part of their establishment? The old school Pac-Man video game! My boyfriend loves feeding that machine quarters upon quarters while waiting for our food.
Not too many negatives about this place, maybe the sticky tables and sometimes empty hot sauce bottles, but I can definitely overlook that for a foodgasm. I'm a total carnivore and this place almost always hits the spot! Mmm, half pound cheesesteaks...
I think I know what I want for dinner tonight.

Are you guys kidding me? This place isn't ain't all it's cracked up to be. Grew up in Philadelphia all my life and I recently moved to the Bay Area. Been looking around for a good old fashion cheesesteak from Jersey Joe's...wow...what a let down.
I walk in, and the place sparked some memories from the Jersey shore...so I figure I might have found THE place out here...lord knows I can't get a decent hoagie out here....
Cheese Fries were crap...the cheese steak was only somewhat ok...over all I was really let down.
Putting aside that Jersey Joe's is probably a Yankees fan being from Jersey, I really wanted to like this place. If you live in the Burlingame/San Carlos area, I would recommend giving this place a try as it does fill the cheesesteak craving and has a great casual environment to grab a beer and watch some sports.
I wouldn't necessarily travel from miles away to try this place for the cheesesteak. The cheesesteak was good but there was no wow factor for me. Two major factors made the cheesesteak good but not wow for me. The meat was a little on the bland side, and would have probably been better with more toppings, but I like just a standard cheesesteak. The second factor was the hoagie which was a little too soft overall and at the same time a little too chewy when you take a bite of the roll.
I don't think I can add to all the other good reviews. I thought The Cheesesteak Shop was good, man this place beats it by a whole lot! I first heard about this place probably 3 years ago and always told myself I'll try it and I finally have after all these years.. I wish I hadn't of waited so long...
Coming during lunch hours is a bad idea. This place was super packed with people eating inside and out and with 20+ people lining up, I knew we had not gone to the wrong place but have gone at the wrong time. Line passed by pretty fast and the menu was pretty extensive so it helped the time go by faster.
Menu items included cheesesteaks of course, Hoagies, burgers, sandwiches, combo meals, and even a kids menu. The cheesesteaks all include 1/2 pound, 1/2 POUND!!!! of rib eye steak that is thinly sliced daily with melted American cheese on a special roll and it includes onions. They offer regular cheesesteak, pepper steak, mushroom steak, pizza steak, cheesesteak hoagie, pepperoni steak, and the works.
I went for the regular cheesesteak for $6.50 with an order of garlic fried. Today must not be a diet day because they DO NOT lie when they say 1/2 pound rib eye steak... If I had a scale to weigh it, it would of been over 1/2 pound! The sandwich was heavy and super loaded with loads of steak, cheese and onion... It was the best cheesesteak I've ever had. BUT I would suggest you skip the garlic fries ($2).. I was so disappointed in it! Plenty of garlic but it just didn't have any taste to it. i don't know what they did but they did it very wrong on the fries.
I will never look at The Cheesesteak Shop the same way again...

Great Cheesesteak if your ever near Hillsdales Mall. When I first try it, the owner recommended the works. I actually didn't like it because they put way too much bell pepper and mushroom that my sandwish fall apart. Anyways fast forward 1 year later, I just order the reg cheese & onion and I was in heaven.
Yep, that's how you do a Cheesesteak. I don't know Philly, but I know good and Joe's cheesesteak's are GOOOOOD!!!

It was really good. They do made-to-order. I had chicken cheesesteak with hot peppers and no onions. Talk about picky. They didn't mess it up or anything. It was DELICIOUS. It would be even more delicious if their bread were more delicious, but overall, I'd go back. And it was fun to watch NFL in the middle of July.
Sometimes I really get a craving for a good cheesesteak and fries w/cheese sauce, so this is our go-to place. It has a fun, sports oriented atmosphere. They have a variety of items on the menu from your good ole' cheesesteak w/ or w/o grilled onions, pizza steak, italian hoagies, cheeseburgers, different french fry flavors, etc.
Typically the cheesesteaks are pretty good, with generous amounts of sliced rib-eye steak in them. Their BBQ sauce is good on them as well. If you can't finish it all, it does make for decent left overs. Tried the pizza steak (cheesesteak w/pizza sauce on it) once too, it was OK, I prefer the plain one though. If you're adventurous, try it! The fries are pretty good and I love cheese sauce, so I always order it on the side. Prices are reasonable for the portions.
I have had a few sandwiches with too much grissle and fat in them, thus detracting from the goodness! This has been my experience if you go later (nearing closing time), seems they just throw whatever's left from the day in the sandwich, even overcooked meat pieces at times-YUK!
If you're in a hurry at lunch time, this isn't a good choice as the lines can go out the door and the tables fill up. You can phone ahead which helps, but I have still had to wait in long lines just to pay.
We will continue to go back.
Wow this restaurant is a real guy's place! After all the rave reviews, I went to check it out for lunch. It was 100% men, with girls playing volleyball on the tv and all kinds of Rocky/Baseball/Car stuff on the walls. It felt decidedly not me, but I choose to give it the benefit of the doubt and ordered.
I got a cheesesteak hoagie, which was absolutely drowning in meat. I was like, where is the salad? I dug around and finally find a little bit of lettuce, underneath all the beef and cheese. The bread was kinda soggy, and as a European I was a little turned off by their choice of cheese. But I ate it, and it was quite tasty.
It was ok, but I wouldn't call it 'habitforming'. If you want a masculine environment where you can chow down on loads of meat, this is your place
although I have never been to Jersey or Philadelphia, I can't imagine anywhere having better cheese steaks than here. They are big rolls stuffed to the brim with steak, cheese and optionally onions/hot peppers/sweet peppers. 10 bucks gets you one of those and bunch of steak fries. they got the games on tvs and projector. they have car shows on occasion. good stuff.
The best cheese-steaks ever. I usually go here once a month, since this isn't the healthiest meal out there. The food comes out fresh and hot, the cheese is melted and just oozing out. The fries are nice and firm, a little crunchy. I can't get enough of this place. I usually order the Cheese-steak Lunch, comes with a soft drink. This meal will FILL you up.
The environment is casual, sports memorabilia on the walls, come early otherwise you will be waiting in a line outside the door.
Cheesesteak heaven. It just doesn't get any better. Be careful, this place is habit forming :-) I can't eat cheesesteaks anywhere else because of Jersey Joe's.
And really? The Cheesesteak Shop? Please! That's bush-league amateur hour.
Jersey Joe's knows how to do cheesesteak. If you know a better place that has philly cheesesteak sandwiches (besides Philly, duh), then I don't wanna know about it.
...Actually, tell me about it later. I'd be very curious to try it.
ANYWAY, my brother took me here for the first time about 6 months ago. And now I go nowhere else if I'm ever feeling like a good cheesesteak sandwich. There's a Great Steak sandwich place in the mall that I live near, but I'd rather drive 30 minutes to Jersey Joe's. Honestly, Jersey Joe's makes Great Steak look like turd.
Do yourself a favor and get the Cheesesteak lunch if it's your first time visiting Jersey's. Be sure to go for the grilled onions (why anyone would NOT get grilled onions is beyond me). If sweet peppers are your thing (like it's my thing) then go crazy and ask for some! If you like hot peppers (not my thing), then GO FOR IT!
Point is, you can add a bunch of things to your sandwich here. Grilled onions, hot/sweet peppers, bacon, garlic, mushrooms...whatever you want! And they've got four kinds of cheeses (don't quote me on it though, I THINK it's around four). The default is American Cheese, which actually melts really well with the meat to give it a tangier taste and creamier texture to it. But if you're like me and you like the cheese melted and stringy, then provolone is your winner.
The only bad thing I'd have to say about this place is that the mushrooms they give you (if you ask for it) tastes like the kind from the can. They don't taste fresh at all. If you're a major mushroom lover like me, you don't want that crap from a can! You want it from the dirt it grows from (aka fresh, for those who didn't catch it)!
Despite that, Jersey's is still my favorite cheesesteak place around here. Give it a shot! You won't regret it!
And they've got something for all you health-nuts out there too! They've got...WATER! HOORAY!...Yeah, sorry health-freaks, that's all they've got for you. Oh, and free straws and napkins. Cash-in on those.
But for those who love food and throw nutrition out the window, this is your place! Oh, and when you eat fries, ask them for ranch. Because ranch + fries = crazy delicious.
OK, so up til the other day i thought this place sucked. I had been here a couple times and had ordered the Philly cheese steak and wasn't that impressed. i came here with a friend for lunch, and he just swears its the best place in town for a Philly. well........
1st time:
Regular cheese steak with grilled onions and garlic fries.
the cheese steak was just bland bland bland. had no flavor at all. the garlic fries were, uhm, lets just say there was WAY to much garlic, i started to smell like Gilroy. My friend devoured his, what the, huh?
2nd time:
Apparently i forgot the first time, and let my friend talk me into it for lunch again. I've been know to be a dumbass? I had the same thing, hoping it would be better, only this time i asked for beer battered onion rings instead of the garlic fries.
Guess what? Yup! Philly tasted exactly the same as the first time and the onion rings weren't quite right. they tasted funny. couldn't quite figure it out, I love beer battered onion rings but something was definitely wrong with them. so, I'm tellin my friend, DUDE, this place sucks! He was like, WHATEVER, and again devoured his whole plate. are you nuts? mine was effing horrible!
3rd time and most recent:
WHAT, i came back? Well, my friend invites me and my family out to dinner. guess where? i think this is the only place he eats. I didn't want to go, and i bad mouthed the place, but the rest of my family hadn't been here before and they wanted to try it. FINE, whatever. I'll order the water with a side of ice.
So I'm standing in line with my friend and family behind us, and I said, "i don't why you like the Philly so much but, I'm not ordering that crap again." he says, "dude, get it the way i like it, with pepperoni, i promise you'll like it." pepperoni? OH, you can get it with different shit in it? maybe i should of actually looked at the menu closer? told you i can be a dumbass. oh look there it is, the "pepperoni steak", OK gimme that shit and regular fries this time. :)
Now that I'm actually paying attention, my friend says, "ad some of this sauce to it." (table BBQ sauce). mmkay. Now I'm ready. bite #1 wow, this isn't bad, bite #2 yummy bite #3 OMG this is frickin awesome,
wait......let me try the french fries, holy crap, those are good too. OK this place just gained 2 stars. who knew?
my fault for not paying attention to the menu better the first couple times i went. but still, DONT, get the regular Philly, the garlic fries, or the onion rings and obviously the Philly is much much better when its kicked up a notch.
speakin of kicked up, my Mom's husband ordered the Pepper steak (HOT!!) now they do mean HOT folks. My step Dad can usually handle very spicy food, but we almost had to call the fire department on this one. he was sweating so bad, it took several glasses of beer, i mean water to put the fire out. he said, it was one of the best Philly's he ever had, it was just too damn hot. for those of you that like a fire on your tongue, go for it.
So now that Ive actually studied the menu better, i do recommend the Philly, just make sure you don't get the regular one, and try the BBQ or the HOT sauce from the table, good stuff!
there is a lot a variety on the menu, but your coming here for the Philly right? not for a burger. if you want a good burger go to Pudley's or Sneakers. :)

Great Cheesesteaks!!! Just grilled onions and provolone for me.
If you want to go a little over the top, get the cheese sauce on the fries ;-)
Service is great. If you go at lunch, make sure you are there before noon as this place gets packed.
YES, cheese steak!
I was alone the first time I came here. I had this crazy craving for a cheese steak sandwich while I was at work and decided to just do a search on yelp. I found this place and just drove over. That was probably a year ago. I think I've been there at least once a month since then (screw the diet!).
I was actually just there yesterday and brought a couple of co-workers. I think I just converted a few more. The best thing about this place is just how generous the portions are. One of my co-workers picked up one half of his sandwich and just stared at the meat and just kept saying "Damn... man... uh... damn". He didn't even know how to start on that thing. A basket full of fries doesn't hurt either!
It's true that it gets sorta difficult to find a table during lunch but it's actually not that bad around 11:30-11:45 (early lunches rule!).
This place is just awesome...

I was really sad to leave San Francisco and The Cheese Steak Shop behind when we moved south down to the peninsula. But I like the feel and taste of Jersy Joe's - it's a worthy substitute. It's a sports bar serving up jersey style cheesesteak sandwhiches and hoagies.
I've only had the cheesesteak combo which includes a traditional cheesteak sandwhich, fries, and a drink. The sandwhich is served on a fresh hogie style roll and is overflowing with meat, onions, and cheese. They have other options to add on as well. My husband always gets the pepper steak with sweet and hot peppers.
You order at a counter. When your food is ready, they call you to pick it up. Everyone has always been extremely friendly and quick with our order. Although there is plenty of seating available, it can get really packed around lunch time during the week, so plan accordingly. If you like a ton of meat on your cheesesteaks, this is the place for you.

This place is the best cheesesteak on west coast. I was first introduced to this place by co-workers a few years ago when I worked in Foster City and haven't gone back until just recently. This time we went with my fiancee and we both loved it. Our favorites are the mushroom cheesesteak and the chili cheese fries. There's also a special where you can get a cheesesteak, fries and a beer for about $12. A pretty good deal if you ask me.
This place never disappoints. I always order the philly cheese steak with mushroom and onions. The secret is adding some of the bbq sauce to the cheese steak.
If you come during lunch be prepared to wait. The line is long but it's worth the wait.
I love me the Jersey Joe's. My husband doesn't like trying new places unless he gets three recommendations from friends. I'll dive in because I am damned curious.
So I did. One lunch, I was out with our then infant son and stopped. Got the fully loaded cheesesteak with fries and a soda. Hot, messy and a soft, warm bun wrapped around a massive mound of beef, cheese and veg. Sweet Jeebus! Messy be damned. I sucked it down.
My husband came around to it. He likes Jersey Joe's also. Our son likes the fries and running around the place.
The staff is always friendly and willing to be amused with a two year old running loose with my soda to watching television.
I come here for the Italian hoagie, everything on it, plus mayo. I'm originally from Philly and this is as close as you're gonna get in the Bay Area. Cheese steaks are also great here, there are TVs all over the place, and all the East-Coast paraphernalia gives me that nostalgic feeling.
Five stars for the sandwiches.
After reading the other reviews we had to go there.... We were pleased! We were looking for authentic Philly Cheese steaks, and they came just as expected.
otherwise, the garlic fries are weird. I just don't get it... they were pretty tasty, but the seemed to be swimming in some weird garlic water dressing or something.
The house sauces come in squeeze bottles and get mixed reviews - the BBQ sauce was sweet, and yummy, while the hot pepper sauce seemed overly vinigary, and underly hot.
but really, we went for the sandwiches, and they were 5 stars!
Who knew that the best cheesesteaks in the Bay Area lived in a little shop in a strip mall in San Carlos?
- Roll that's solid on the outside so your hands are always dry. Soft on the inside so it's super easy to chew.
- A large quantity of soft, ground up steak.
- High quality melted cheese.
- I usually get a mushroom steak so they're nice, chopped, sauteed mushrooms in there too.
It's hard to describe, but it all just comes together. Never knew cheesesteak could be so good. Definitely meets the hype.
Great sides too:
- Garlic fries that are crispy on the outside and soft inside with great flavor.
- Hot chicken wings.
All totally unhealthy, but oh, soo good.
So good! The Mushroom Cheesesteak was fantastic. With a chicken salad, delish! Despite some of the reviews that made me hesitant....I am now a fan forever!
We're lucky to have a place like this on the Peninsula! (And with $9 pictures of Fat Tire and Sierra, HELLLLOOOOO!)
piles of grilled chopped steak, melted provolone, grilled mushrooms and onion, soft pillowy roll=HEAVEN.
deep fried mushrooms are great, cripy crust and nice juicy mushrooms, i usually get this instead of fries (which are just so-so).
diets be damned.
As a Philadelphia area native, these cheesesteaks are as close to the real deal as you'll find outside of the tri-state area. The rolls, the cheese (I personally like American), and the meat are all good quality. The regular fries are great.
One sandwich and one order of fries is easily splittable by two people for a filling but not overwhelming lunch.
I got the Works Cheesesteak the other day for lunch, along with sides of Onion Rings, Mozzarella Sticks, French Fries, and Garlic Fries. I also got a Vanilla Milkshake too.
The sandwich was definitely very fattening and greasy....I managed to eat half my sandwich and a few items from the sides dishes before calling it quits.
... I didn't feel good for the rest of the afternoon...needless to say...I didn't have much of a late dinner either...ugh
It was hyped so much by my friend, that by the time I got to try it, I was disappointed. I got the Italian hoagie (my staple when I'm in Philly), but I just found this sandwich over powered by the mass amounts of raw onion (which I had to pick out). The meats were cut a little to thick for my taste, not deli cut. The rolls were good though.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Need i say more???? Seriously????
Another place that reminds me of food on the East Coast. The cheesesteaks here are the best I've had in this area. We usually do take-out, but my kids love the table-top Ms. Pacman while we're waiting for our food. The kids specials come in a paper car, and that is a big plus for them. If you order out, they still give you the car, bonus!

My co-worker, who is from the Philadelphia, and I came here during an overcast day in San Carlos. Without any surprise at noon, the line was really long, but moved very quickly. And with the long line, we were debating here or the Korean Barbecue place next door. But my co-worker had a Korean meal earlier in the week, so we stayed here.
Considering that this place is big, there aren't too many tables to eat our food. There is outdoor seating in front, but the city of San Carlos was also windy and moving cars driving and exposing their exhaust along El Camino Real that can interfere with our meals. However, I do like the fun arrangement and other banners that resemble the East Coast. In front of kitchen where they prepared all meals, they do have cool selections of die-cast cars with the Jersey Joe's logo on them locked up in a case.
There are combo meals here, so we both ordered the popular Cheesesteak lunch meal. For $8.99(+ tax), the sandwich contained a half pound of thinly sliced rib-eye steak with melted cheese and grilled onions on a grilled and toasted soft roll. The combo also comes with fries and a medium fountain drink (Coca Cola). Similar to most Cheesesteak sandwiches that I've eaten, it was indeed very messy and greasy, but very tasty and satisfying. The odds and ends from my sandwich make a great dip for my fries.
They do accept credit cards here, in which we paid our meal. Co-worker thought the sandwich was pretty good for a Bay Area restaurant. I have been to Philadelphia many years ago, and I've had one of the better Cheesesteak places there. But this San Carlos place is pretty close.

Ehhhhhh not so impressed with Jersey Joe's' menu. I've had the regular cheesesteak... then loaded with the peppers, shrooms, and onion.. the chicken cheesesteak.. and there was always something not quite right about them. I don't know if it's the sticky, what seems cheese sauce they put on it.. but every bite tastes the same, has the same texture, and... ehhhh it's just not me. Not enough taste for my buds but the ex kept dragging me back. Oooooo I heart compromise.. *puke*
The interior is pretty cool. The kids working the counter are usually pretty friendly... just not into the food.
