My favorite is the Tuna sandwich along with their fresh cut fries. The price is incredibly reasonable. You should give John a shot and believe me you won't regret it.
I gave a liberal rating of four stars here and I'll explain why. My bf and I wanted to try here since there was outdoor seating to accommodate our dog and the menu had some great options (not the mention to positive reviews from fellow yelpers).
We went on a Sat. morning, the tables looked full but much to our surprise the staff cleaned one up pretty fast for us. Service was great, they took our drinks orders right away and were back to take our food order but we were still perusing the menu.
I decided on the Lisa's Benedict, the waitress made sure I was okay with since that benedict had no hollandaise sauce on it. I knew that but it was great of her to verify. My bf ordered the chorizo scramble. Food came up pretty soon, before she put my plate down the waitress recognized that my poached eggs were overdone so she left me the food and promised to come back with the right poached eggs. SUPER PLUS for that !
The food was ehh (which is why I minused a star), or maybe it was what we ordered but the service was EXCELLENT, very friendly and super attentive. We'll probably try them again given it was a good experience overall.

I have walked past here for a couple of years and when I finally was sans toddler and no particular place to go, I decided to go in. Had the spicy sausage scramble which was humongous and yummy. Good potatoes. The waitstaff are like your Grandmother's sisters who you just keep waiting for them to call you 'sweetie.' Not in a way that makes you growl but like you're dropping by for a chat and a nosh. John is so friendly, even with the weird people that were there when I was. Plus you gotta love a diner that has Korean bbq on the menu. Relaxed, good basic food.
Papa A you are delusional if u think that any restaurant cleans during operating hours. If you could look in any other restaurant's kitchen you would see that they are all the same. Eat at home if yo don't like it. I hope you enjoyed your germ infested breakfast. ;)
*3.5*
Well, this place is definitely a diner...nothing fancy or pretty about it. I was there for the food, and they delivered in that department.
I had the egg white scramble with veggies. Very delicious and very filling...and VERY large! I ate half of my meal and was full and took the rest home. (Not sure what kind of portions other people on here are looking for ...enough to serve 3?) I am a girl who can EAT...and I was totally satiated with half of my meal.
You need to try the sweet potato pancakes, too. They were good and unique...just like me. HA HA NOT! But definitely try them. They are not on the menu, but thanks to other yelpers I asked about them and they indeed had them.
Only reason I gave it a lower score is because it was a little greasy...both my meal and the place. Nothing I wouldn't have again, though! =)

My first time in RWC I ate here and the breakfast was great service was good also. My friend is a vegetarian and tried every vegeburger in the area he likes theirs the most I think they probably use very fresh lettuce and tomatoes thats the trick to it. fish and chip were o.k. Batter is light almost like tempura but not as crunchy as I would like, fries are good though.

This place is within walking distance of my apartment. The staff is friendly and helpful. I usually have Chris's 36 special: 3 or 6 egg whites scrambled with seasonal vegetables and served with oatmeal or fruit. I substituted the oatmeal with toast. They serve fresh squeezed oj which is expensive but delicious. It's a great place to get a solid breakfast before heading to the farmer's market .
So.. I've been having a craptastic week, and my husband wanted to take me somewhere that serves potato pancakes - my favorite. He checked Yelp and was pointed in the direction of Talk. He was super proud of himself and I was extremely impressed - I haven't been able to find potato pancakes in California.
We go. All the tables were taken, so we sat at the counter. It seemed like all the people around us were regulars, so.. that was a little strange. I felt like a tourist - my I heart SF shirt didn't help, I'm sure. I open the menu. NO POTATO PANCAKES. Apparently my husband read the review wrong; it said *sweet* potato pancakes. Though, they weren't on the menu either.
I got the banana-walnut pancake and it was pretty good. But $6.25 for two pancakes? And.. that's it? And.. $3.95 for a glass of orange juice? That's poured out of a plastic container? That's a little pricey. So, tasty, but expensive - hence the lack of stars.

Great food and great service, I would return there next time I'm looking for late breakfast (tried to go to Stacks and saw at least a dozen people in line). Even when busy, the staff was friendly and the food was tasty.
One thing though, . . . up the decor, PLEASE! Flourescent lighting? duct tape on the floors? They have all these cool framed prints that are totally discounted by blinding WHITE walls? Man. Can you at least spend $50 on some Ikea lights or something? Get some plants or something. Wow. I think it's actually the lights that are the worst. I felt almost like I was in a sterile classroom or - dare I say it - a prison cell?

My husband and I went here on a Friday for brunch. They were still serving breakfast, which was awesome. The place seemed to have a lot of regulars eating there.
Our food was very good. My pancake wasn't fully cooked in the middle though. I got the banana/walnut pancakes. The sausage was traditional and very salty. If you like typical diner food (and even crepes), come here. If you like something low salt and healthy, do not come here! (Unless I missed a healthy option on the menu.)
The service was excellent. But the place does not have much ambiance. A few nice pictures hang on the wall where the tables are. The place generally seems old and out of date. I found the counter seating to be uncomfortable, so choosing a regular table is probably your best bet.
After you get your bill, pay it at the end of the counter (the end near the door). You can also find a lot of newspapers on the counter here and pick one up to read when you come in.

If you want friendly, good service, take out, a quick bite, or old fashioned milkshakes, go here! John and his staff aim to please. We've been going here for many, many years and are always entertained during a meal.
Now...if RC would only do something about the parking costs..."
Awesome for breakfast. I work in downtown RWC so it's close and convenient. I can call an order in and it's always ready within 10 minute (sometimes sooner). Eggs Blackstone (like Eggs Benedict but with American bacon and tomatoes. Several years (geez...probably 6 or 7) ago some co-workers and I tried to order everything on the lunch menu during a summer internship. We weren't able to do it. Very extensive menu.

Hi,
We arrived and were seated outdoors without ever going inside. In retrospect, we should have toured the kitchen and bathrooms 1st. We used the recommendations from yelp to decide on eating there and we were pleased until we used the bathrooms which were located such that you accessed them by going through the kitchen. I had to step around the potatoes that were on the floor in a bucket. The bathrooms were so gross that I would expect to find them only in a small town service station that was in total disrepair and long outdated. There is no-way the exceptionally well prepared and tasty food can justify a good rating when the food is prepared adjacent to the bathroom germs inches away. I do not disagree with the opinions about the taste of the food. We did end up with one of three omelets that was overcooked ( ie: brown on the outside ). Overall the breakfast looked and tasted good and the service was very friendly and professional. After going inside the diner ( to use the restroom) I realized that it was too hot inside to be comfortable, and had we not been able to sit outside on a beautiful Callifornia day - we would not have stayed to eat inside. I hope that someday soon the owners will realize that cleanliness and comfort are important ingredients in the preparation of thier food and setting were it is to be enjoyed.
I'm going outside to enjoy the rest of this beautiful day !
Papa
I ordered my breakfast standard linguica & eggs which was pretty darn good. The eggs I ordered over easy were a little on the runny side which is exactly how I prefer them.
My make it or break it deal for breakfast is if the place has good gravy and the white gravy with lots of sausage was very good.
One of my ideal breakfast dishes is to cut up linguica and stir it in with fried eggs and hash browns and then cover the whole mess in gravy and tabasco sauce.
Oh, and I'd like rye toast with marmalade on the side, please.
I can't count how many times that I've sat at a table with people looking at my plate and wondering what the hell is he doing with all that gravy and hot sauce?
Hey, I'm just starting the day off right.

It was our first visit here today. I was trying to find something off our beaten path that would appeal to my breakfast-obsessed sweetie.
On our plates: short stack of honey wheat pancakes with eggs, corned beef hash, and a Denver omelet. The clear winner was the plate of pancakes. From the moment they arrived, we could tell they were marvelous -- thick, firm, with an almost crisp exterior, with a lovely side of salted butter. Those babies could go toe-to-toe with my sweeties favorite 'cakes at Hobee's, I'm telling you.
My hash was probably premade, but had added fresh saute'd mushrooms and green peppers, which gave it a nice quality. Scrambled eggs were fluffy and nicely done. The omelet looked good; I will probably have the Alaskan when we visit again.
As others have said, the quality that really brings this place up a notch is the service. Everyone was very friendly and pleasant, very helpful. We didn't have to wait for a table, at 1:30 or so on a Sunday afternoon.
This is my favorite place in RWC. What's not to love? Breakfast is served until 3 (at least). My favorite is the Eggs Blackstone: english muffin, poached egg, American bacon, tomato and Hollandaise, and when you break the egg you can mix the yolk and the Hollandaise into your homestyle potatoes and... mmm.... I want some right now. The omelettes are delicious. The sweet potato pancakes are delicious. The club sandwiches are delicious. Dining on the sidewalk under the trees, nursing a milkshake and a hangover and watching the lady at the next table feeding her patty melt to her dog is delicious. I love this place.
The owner, John, is always around and he really loves his shop and his customers. It doesn't take many visits to feel like a regular. There's a lot of variety on the menu, but your best bet is something traditional, because they do it right. You can spend more than $10 if you try, but you'll probably be taking home leftovers.
I have dreams about Talk of Broadway.

Okay breakfast spot in downtown Redwood City. I ordered the chef's omlette, which was a little greasy for my taste. The omlette didn't really gel with the ingredients in it and separated when cut. The home-fry potatoes were decent. It's not the most attractive place, but our waitress was quite friendly and kept us entertained. Was of course crowded on Sunday morning, but I realized it was probably b/c there are not a lot of other breakfast places in the downtown area.

Great little hole in the wall. We started going here because we were looking for a hamburger. Now we go just because we love going there. The staff is wonderful. The food simple but good.
Sure the ambiance isn't much...but we generally sit outside--and have only been inside once.

Love the lunch counter here and the old fashioned coffee shop feel. The place seems to have a steady stream of customers and when I stepped in, I had the feeling that many were regulars. The menu is interesting with everything from Korean BBQ beef, to crepes in addition to the standard diner fare (salads, sandwiches, burgers, milkshakes).
I ordered a salad (don't remember the name of it). The portion size was very generous and it came with two kinds of cheese. They also included a (very) large sliced chicken breast. I skipped the tortilla strips as a topping. The lettuce was fresh but the salad dressing tasted like it came from a bottle and there wasn't much in the salad other than the chicken, lettuce, cheese and cilantro. It came with a buttered toasted roll. Simple, basic food - it was good enough but more expensive than I expected - salad + soda = $12. I would come back here to try something that they actually cook.

Always packed for weekend breakfast and weekday lunch. Friendly owners, staff and the fact that they know most the of the patrons means a lot of repeat business. They always get your breakfast orders right if you order out of the norm. My favorite lunch is the bul gogi beef w/ rice. Try finding that at the courthouse cafe!

We felt like Mexican breakfast and we're going to try Margarita's but they weren't open yet, we moseyed over to Talk b/c there were a lot of happy people eating outside.
Very fast service by an enthusiastic and friendly dude. I got a cheddar cheese omelet with bacon and mushrooms, potatoes and toast. Hubster got the Joe's scramble, potatoes and dry toast.
Food came out pretty quickly and we dug in. Very good! My omelet was stuffed with bacon, seemed like half a pig was in it! Potatoes were super good, yummy little red ones with perfect seasoning and crispy softness. Even the toast was awesome! I barely even saw Hubster's breakfast before he wolfed it down.
Lot of little families here and the waiters were very friendly with everyone, seems like at least a couple regulars.
I want to come back for lunch, lots of good looking stuff on the menu! I bet they make a good $5 milkshake too.

Hands down the best place on Broadway.
The menu has a wide selection of dishes, the prices are moderate compared to the portions you get enough food!
Employees are very friendly, they are SUPER PROMPT, got our food quick.
I'm going back and taking friends.
I love this place- it is my default place to grab lunch to go- Their chicken salad is very good. They have great omlettes as well. The guys who run the place are super friendly. I have never had a bad experience here!
I usually see the same folks here on a regular basis, so you know people keep coming back!

Hands down, without a doubt this is THE best diner on the Peninsula!! Exceptional breakfast joint, great burgers, fantastic shakes, and a good mix of other dishes. The owner (John) and his brother (Andy) and all of the staff take exceptional care of the customers. We've been going there for 10 years and are weekend regulars. Let's be honest...Talk of Broadway is a line item in our monthly budget! That's a loyalty that only comes from superior service and excellent food.
If you want to take a date to a fancy dinner, this is not your place. If you want to be wowed by a fancy decor, this is not your place. If you want good food served by friendly folks, this is THE ONLY place.

This diner can't be beat! It's run by two brothers who really pay a lot of attention to detail, including a hugely varied menu containing a seemingly insurmountable array of breakfast , lunch and dinner choices. Basically, if you have a hankering for some particular random item, odds are they have it on the menu! (Crepes, Korean BBQ, SPaghtetti, Omelettes, Fish-n-Chips, sandwiches...I'm really not kidding, these guys know how to please a crowd.)
Easily the best hamburger in Redwood City (I like to order mine with cheese and avocado). Sitting at one of the sidewalk tables and enjoying the warm fall breeze this afternoon was so gosh darn perfect, I'm amazed I actually made it back to work!

Great food, excellent service! Tried the Eggs Blackstone and found I enjoyed that more than Eggs Benedict. Can'[t wait to try the sweet potato pancakes. The blueberry pancakes top Stacks by far!!
We love to go here on weekends for breakfast. We sit on the sidewalk and watch downtown Redwood City go by.
I always have the same thing - the corned beef hash! They told me it was homemade. I think they fudge on that a little. It appears to be the canned variety, with added sauteed green onions and mushrooms. Cooked till it's crisp on top, they put the over-easy eggs, with the side of hashbrowns, and man what a meal.
The owner, John, aims to please. He's worked hard at making this place a success. Despite the construction mess going on, he appears to be hanging in there.
This is the kind of place that makes me enjoy living in a smaller city.

So one day shortly after having moved out of San Francisco to the Peninsula (San Carlos to be exact,) I was hungry for breakfast one Saturday morning and wanted to get away from my usual Oatmeal & low fat granola. I decided to check out what was around me. I pretty much knew what shops were on Laurel Street (San Carlos' main strip) and didn't see anything that I just had to try. I drove into downtown Redwood city and saw that this is a part of town that is being revitalized. I noticed a small coffee shop that looked pretty run of the mill. Well, for some reason I decided to try it. I quickly discovered that most of the customers were regulars and were on a first name basis with the owners. I almost walked out since I felt somewhat like an intruder. Nonsense. Andy, one of the two brothers who run the place, stopped me, smiled and asked if anyone had shown me the menu. Before I had a chance to walk out he handed me one and lead me to a nice outdoor table..
So to my surprise, I found that they offered a Tofu scramble breakfast. Have I ever mentioned that I'm a vegan? Well, breakfast is one of the meals where I usually, give in and end up having pancakes. Not today! I ordered the Tofu Scramble with hash browns, dry whole wheat toast and coffee. What a treat. The service is outstanding. Yes, it's crowded at times yet John and Andy manage to keep everyone happy. Even their staff have taken on this contagious attitude.
So on other visits, I gave in and ordered their pancakes. You gotta try the sweet potato pancakes! Just enough SP to give it a different taste yet still taste like pancakes!
I've gone back many times and they remember my name and even my mom and dad's when I've brought them here...Bravo guys!!

This is one of my all time favorite breakfeast places for three reasons.
First off I am one of those annoying substituting eaters and this does not even phase them. I order things that are not even on the menu all the time and they are happy to make it, this is a big plus for me because most breakfasts places are horrified at the thought of having to substitute anything. Second the two brothers are extremely friendly and make you fell as if you are at home. And lastly the food is just good, especially the chocolate chip pancakes and the chicken fried steak and well a bunch of other things too.
This place has by far the BEST breakfast I have ever had... When you walk in you wont believe the regulars that come in, 1 by 1 the owner will call out there name just like on cheers. the place is packed on the weekends. The eggs benedict is the best I have ever had, I order that on the weekends.. I have started to come in so often that the cook will start to cook my breakfast for me before I order it, I get the eggs and beacon on weekdays... service is unbelieveable. food is spectacular. the owner John is a hands on owner he serves and talks to the customers...great guy , great place to eat
