OMG I am in LOVE with their shrimp quesadillas. Super cheesy with pico de gallo and wrapped in a spinach tortilla. Also comes with chips. I eat it with the their mango salsa.
I like the idea of the kichen/ordering area is on the 1st floor and then there are 2 floors above for seating so you don't have a billion people around you while you're eating.

wow....one word, Over-priced-mediocre-excuse-for-mexican-food.
I can see why this place is popular, because it's in a close location to several office buildings. However, please save your $9.75 and go get a decent burrito somewhere else.
They have no prices on their menu so you have to find a little paper one to get the prices, annoying, but even more annoying when you see the prices vs. what you're getting.
3 stars is perfect for this place, it is "a-ok" in my book., but the salsa bar deserves its own star, so alas 4 stars it is. Nothing too exciting or too bad - much like the Goldilocks's story this place was just right. The food is fresh, the salsa bar is good (hello avocado salsa), they have a good menu selection, the chicken burrito was a good size and tasty. One downer is that It gets PACKED at lunch, so if you want to sit or not battle crowds then get here before noon. A solid FiDi Mexican lunch place.

I just started working in the financial district and stumbled across this place the other day. I was put off by the fact that they don't post the prices on the menu, it just says AQ. After finding out the prices I can see why. Not cheap. BUT, I ordered the torta with grilled steak, partly because it was one of the less expensive items (7.50), and was very impressed. Everything about it was quality, soft, and delicious! Recommended.
I tried this place a long time ago and wasn't all that impressed so I never bothered with a review. I think I had gotten a Nopales burrito or something. Whatever it was, it obviously didn't make a solid impression.
Came here recently and got a grilled beef burrito off of their "healthy section" expecting another not-so-great experience. WOW it was good. It was basically beef fajitas wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla. Grilled beef and sauteed peppers. So basic, but perfect for my appetite and taste buds. The avocado salsa went really well with this.
Prices could be a bit cheaper

Completely delicious! As a Cal student I would frequent Cancun on Allston for their amaaaazing chicken quesadillas and fresh watermelon frescas (that they happened to be across the street from the only tanning salon in Berkeley didn't hurt either). Anyway....now that I am in SF I rarely make it back over the bridge, and I was missing my fav Mexican food....until I realized that Tlaloc is the exact same place!! Seriously, try this out - you won't regret it. Plus, an oozing cheesy scrumptious quesadilla is so much better than a $15 salad from Mixt Greens, which is across the street. p.s. if you're feeling especially naughty during a work day lunch, I hear the sangria is to die for...

Note- this review is for breakfast only.
I came here this morning for their breakfast burrito because I saw the menu on the street. The first thing I noticed was the lack of potatoes but the inclusion of beans. The second thing I noticed was the lack of cheese. Both of these are good qualities, as those are usually what makes a typical breakfast burrito much to greasy and heavy.
I had the nopales con huevos... the prickly pear cactus, eggs, beans and white corn salsa. I love nopales and to have them in a burrito this morning was so great. They substituted the refried beans that usually come with the burrito for black beans without any hastle, and everything came out quickly and fresh. The flavors went perfectly together without being overly greasy or drippy.
More than that, the salsa bar is AMAZING. The breakfast burrito came with a side of chips and I got something labled as "hot" that really wasn't (still tasty) and a mango salsa that was too mild but so flavorful and complimentary to my cactus burrito. Great, filling, and not too heavy feeling breakfast experience. I'll have to come back for lunch sometime and decide further on a review then, but for now it's 4 stars.

GREAT Mole, but what really makes this place is its salsa bar. I tried both the mango salsa and the garlic salsa with my mole burrito yesterday and they were stellar. The garlic salsa made me start to sweat...but it was already a hot day...and I'm already smokin...ooooooh snap.
My sister moved to a new area for work so I was sad that we couldn't meet up at our usual spot B44 on the other side of town. Instead she told me about her favorite taqueria on Clay street.
I'm supposed to eat light because I'm a bridesmaid this upcoming Friday (lucky 8/8/08) and my butt totally decided that a burrito would be healthy. My sister and my mom however ordered two delicious dishes called a Tostado Costena and my mom ordered something like that but with not as much seafood, I think it was prawns tostado or something. I think I picked off their plate more so than my grilled tilapia fish burrito!
Actually thats a lie because I ate 3/4's of my humungus burrito and also drank one of their strawberry drinks with sliced floating strawberries at the top! Very yummy to munch on while you are sippin your drink! Reminded me of boba balls but real strawberries.
Oh back to the burrito..well if you have ever had a Chipotle burrito think of their burritos, but longer and not so thick.
Also, if you don't want to stand in any lines during the week make sure you get there about 11:50am before all the business workers come rushing out of their offices. I love going to the city and seeing all the people in their work clothes at their lunch time. Makes me envious to graduate already!
(well not really!)

I work nearby and stop here for lunch once every few weeks, just for the prawn taco, which is delicious. Prices seem a bit steep ($7-9 for a taco?), and what I've been charged varies based on whether I take the food out ($2 more) versus eat in ($2 cheaper) - I don't really get that. The salsa bar seems just okay, but I'm not a salsa connoisseur. Orders come out fairly quickly and I haven't gotten sick here yet.
Good, solid food, not unlike its sister restaurant in Berkeley. Their chicken quesadillas are absolutely the best. I don't know why we stray and try new things. What a waste of stomach space! The ceviche appetizer came out when we were halfway done with our meal. With the starter dish coming out after the fact (second restaurant in a row), Roy and I are vowing not to order appetizers anymore!
Yay strawberry agua fresca! I liked the outdoor seating on this beautiful day. I believe Roy enjoyed the eye candy walking around.

Crispy fish tacos! Probably the best fish tacos i've had. a little on the greasy side, actually its pretty greasy but once you bite into it, you forget all about it. Their burritos are really good too. I usually stick with the chicken burrito. A lot of my co-workers love this place too. Their selection of salsas are awesome! The hottest one is HOT! i mean HOT! and i love eating spicy stuff. the green one is the best even if its not spicy, i forget what the ingredients are.
I'm willing to walk the four blocks to have lunch here to take it back to the office.

Tlaloc has some really good freakin' burritos. If you're around downtown SF in the Financial District, you should really stop by and give this place a try sometime. The burritos are juicy and fat and filled w/ all usual goodies found in burritos. They've got some very interesting (and tasty) salsas to go w/ your burrito and chips. The restaurant's location is great to enjoy some sunny weather, and it's also right across from Mixed Greens, so you also get to enjoy the eye-candy that gets their meal from there as well. I'm sure it's b/c rents are crazy expensive in this area, but burritos will run you around $7-$10, depending on what you order. But it's well worth a shot.

First things first ... a warning to everyone who is thinking of getting nachos...DON'T. It's not nacho cheesy cheddar cheese ... but rather dried white crusy cheese on what becomes stale chips...
Instead, turn your attention to their seafood burritos and get yourself a juicy, large-portioned prawn burrito. Then, head over to salsa heaven and fill up one of those containers with the INFIERNO SALSA (a little goes a long way....to hell...) and don't forget to refill your cup with water when you need it (which will be FREQUENT) Man, it hurts so good...
SALSA BAR RULEZ...and so does their prawn burrito. OH! ANND there's upstairs seating...2 extra floors!?! CHAA!?

Do not even attempt to drive here during the work week.
Now that we've gotten that out of the way, onto business...
I didn't have much expectations for this place. Living in SF and eating taqueria food in the Financial District can backfire. Usually the rule of thumb in these parts is, "if it aint grimey, it aint good." But to my surprise, my carne asada burrito was decent. It aint no Guadalajara, but I can see how someone who works in the area can satisfy their burrito fix here. They didn't drain the juice from the meat so everytime I took a bite, there was a burst of flavor, yet at the same time not too wet or soggy. As far as size, it's not nearly as gargantuan as the stuff you get in the Mission (which is probably better for my health) but it still left me satisfied. My friend ordered a chicken quesadilla which looked pan-fried to perfection but she eats fast and wasn't in a hurry to share any of it. There is a cool salsa bar in the back (salsa, as in the condiment, not a dance club) with unique flavors such as mango, garlic and some other spicy chipotle blends.
My burrito was almost $9 which is up there considering the small size but this is, after all, the Financial District not 24th and Mission.
In a nutshell, if I'm craving a burrito I would not go out of my way to eat here. That's not the fault of Tlaloc but rather the result of SF having too many damn taquerias. If I happen to be in the area though, I wouldn't hesitate to come back.

Love it. Great food, it's consistent & they are quick. The only reason I gave it four stars is because it is quite pricey for a Mexican Food joint and they don't have enough indoor seating sometimes.
I was planning to meet the hubby for a nice lunch in the city. Having not been for awhile, I was about to open my mouth and suggest E&O, when he opened his mouth first and suggested we try this taqueria he had mentioned before. Taqueria?!? I am not planning to take a long lunch and Bart into the city for tacos! That thought and the long trek from the Bart station was enough for me to dislike the place even before arriving.
When we did get there, we saw that the line to order was already out the door. That was enough time for me to check out the large menu on the wall. We ordered the tostada costena, mole burrito with prawns, and a horchata. OMG, that was the yummiest seafood salad (with a tostada buried beneath it)! The mole burrito was good too, I am not much of a burrito fan, but this one was nice and tasty.
One thing we found interesting was that the lady who took our order at the counter also ended up bringing our food to us. Why? I haven't a clue, but I wish she had just stayed behind the counter taking orders, because she ended up dropping the basket of chips on my lap. She said she would bring us another, but as soon as she disappeared down the stairs, we pretty much knew we would not see her again. My hubby flagged down another server and asked for chips. He brought us back this tiny little basket. Too bad, because the salsas were really good.
This place is pricier than your average taqueria. Each of our dishes were $10. But as we got up to leave, and I brushed chip crumbs off my lap, I had to admit it was well worth the trek.
I should have known better. I should have stayed the course. I should have went with my gut and order what I normally order....but I didn't. And now it's ruined. RUINED, I TELL YOU!!
Have you ever had a huge disappointment while out dining? You leave the establishment with steam coming of your ears, furiously thinking, "YELP WILL HEAR ABOUT THIS!!" Well that's how I felt today when I left Tlaloc today with my DISASTER of a crispy prawn taco.
The taco looked as if someone cumpled it up like a peice of paper, threw it in a plastic container and dumped grease all over it. Bad...bad bad. But I still ate it. Now I feel as though I took $6 and set it on fire. I'm pissed because I WANTED to order something else, but the lady at the cashier INSISTED that I order the crispy taco....even though the crispy taco only comes with ONE whereas the soft tacos come with TWO.
All is not lost here. One bad taco can be forgiven I suppose. I still wouldn't recommend getting it though. I think this is the go-to place for Mexican food in the FiDi and probably as good as its gonna get around these parts. I usually get a side of chicken and a side of rice (hefty side portions that end up feeding me for lunch AND dinner) and drench it in mango salsa. Tlaloc's mango salsa is the only mild salsa I like. The carne asada quesadilla is also pretty fabulous.
Tlaloc's location is ideal on Commercial street and provides outside tables for both customers and passerbys. Just be careful what you order. Go big or go home.

Yum, yum, and more yum. This is a fancier tex mex place, with a little more bang for your buck.
My faves: seafood burritos (snapper, squid, and shrimp)
The salsas are good, too. So, grab yourself a little summery sensation mexicana action and sit outside and enjoy the sun/shade. This is a great "Friday" lunch break place.
Does this place think they are located in Zimbabwe? I have never seen a casual restaurant with the entire menu have "AQ" for their prices. I was with a group and didn't want to hit the same place twice and this was the only option. I found out my chicken burrito was $9.50 after tax. It was pretty good and the salsa selection is nice. I had the Garlic which was labeled as "HOT!" but totally was not. It was good, though. Spinach tortilla, I got no beans. I can't say I was disappointed, but I will say that I enjoy a Baja Fresh burrito for $2 less (and $4 if you get their survey discount) and a lot more meat (and it's steak) AND has Guacamole included, which this place didn't. Chips were nice. In all, I think I'd give them a 4, but the AQ thing upsets me. Also, their menu is hard to read due to the glare.
BEST SALSA BAR EVER!
I heard about this spot because of it's sister spot in Berkley that I used to go to WAY back in the day when I was visiting friends at Cal.
Keep this in mind, however: you are in the Financial District. The rent for this spot must be ridiculously high. So, expect to pay the price.
They have seating in the closed off alley or inside. Pick the alley. On a sunny day, you will get enough rays to keep you going the rest of the day!

Just went back today for the first time in many years. Unfortunately for this place Los Socios is a mere 2 blocks away so I never make it to this place unless it's a nice day and I want to sit outside like today. They make a solid chicken burrito (they use breast meat which is key). The spiciest salsa really is spicy so be careful.

There are three breakfast burrito places downtown that are on the list - The Fountain, Alex's and Tlaloc. Each are being saved as a victory breakfast after a night of dancing. Last night was Steve Lawler, this morning is a victory breakfast.
I had a big 11 presentation, and my instincts said to go to The Fountain, because it's closet to market. But I trekked here, as I heard so many good things. I should have trusted my instincts.
10:30 - No one helps me.
10:33 - Confirmation they'll do egg whites, but will charge more.
10:35 - Order taken, assured for the third time this will take 5 min.
10:40 - No food, getting nervous
10:43 - Think that is my food, but it's not.
10:45 - Still no food. Oblivious staff. Demand my money back.
10:46 - Race to work. Hungry.
10:58 - Made it to presentation. Really hungry.
12:00 - Presentation over.
Now - Yelping. Very, very hungry.
After a mixed lunch experience and this debacle, I'm over it. Don't waste your time at this over-hyped mecca of disappointment.

I'm working my way through the menu...so far I've had the chile verde and the carnitas and I've been very impressed - they use organic ingredients and it's all-around high quality [Mexican] food.
The line gets long during the lunch rush but it moves pretty quickly...especially if you order to go and eat on the steps of the old federal reserve building across the street. If you can time your meal outside the rush, there's never a wait.
As others have said, it's on the pricier side...expect to pay $9 for a super burrito and another $2 for a soda.
Excellent veggie burritos. Try the Mango Salsa from their extensive salsa bar. The chips need work. Tlaloc is pricey, $8 or more for a burrito, but the food is tasty and fresh. This may explain the line going out the door during lunch hour.
Yummy! I come here once a week for lunch. My favorite dishes include: their low carb shrimp salad, crispy fish taco or their mole burrito. YUM! I can honestly say that they have the best strawberry agua fresca i've ever tasted. I love how there are slices of strawberries in it. Delish!
They have a pretty impressive salsa bar with some interesting varieties like pumpkin and mango. But it's super hard to justify a $10 burrito with a small amount of chips. I rather walk a couple blocks to Pancho Villa.

Food is good, but overpriced for what you get. I paid about $9 for a vegetarian burrito and was surprised how tiny it was. If you walk a few blocks on either side, you can get a much better burrito deal that's just as good.
Just passing by, I see this place with a slew of empty tables in the alley, a handful of people waiting for to-go orders in the back, and no line. Decide to check it out anyway. By the time I decide what I want and place my order, there are 20 people in line behind me. Must have just beat the lunch rush...
Anyway, I got a tasty Fish Burrito with grilled red snapper on a tomato tortilla. Very clean, fresh taste and a surprisingly filling portion. Agree with others that they could be a little less stingy with the tortilla chips, especially since they have a pretty awesome variety of salsas available. Coworker had a Chicken Quesadilla which had a nice grilled flavor folded in an equally fresh tortilla. Ooh, bonus points for having Horchata (cinnamon-y rice milk). Fresh, fast, yummy, tasty.
If you're looking for a yummy low-carb burrito with some taste this is the place! They also have great tacos and quesadillas. I must say their salsa bar is one of a kind. I don't think I've ever seen such a tasty selection. They give you a bunch of containers too to fill up. Love this place.
Yes, the past reviews are right: The salsa is amazing. The burritos will cost you $10.
Why come here for the salsa? Because if you love garlic, then come here and experience the perfect marriage of a garlicy salsa. Delicious! Just remember to bring a breath mint for after wards.
As for the $10 burritos: Yes, these won't have me visiting the place weekly, but on occasion when I want a deliciously fresh burrito I'll be back in the Tlaloc lunch line.
The food is tasty, yet pricey, the salsa bar is fantastic and the outdoor seating is a plus. Also, the margaritas are tasty, but the pitcher of sangria totally missed the mark. It was refreshing but really lacked any essence of alcohol.

Best Mexican Food Ever! I love this place. I tried almost all their venue and I found the Deep Fried Tacos are to crave for. mango salsa...yummmmmm.. Will definitely be back soon.
They have pretty yummy salsa and their food is good. I recommed the tacos, just because they seem to have the most pizzaz. I got a tostada that was good but not delicious. I got a burrito once that was good but not packed full, you know? The tacos did not fail to delight me, especially with loads of mango or avocado salsa!
Good aguas frescas too. Pricey for Mexican in this city, but it is in the Financial District.
The one knock on this place is the price and its a bit crowded during lunch. I guess thats two knocks. That being said. Keyword to remember is "fresh". They say they grow there own fruits and veggies and I have no reason not to believe them. I tried there food it tastes that good. So the food is awesome and the venue is priceless. Outdoor seating on a closed street. Lots of solid people watching.
There was close to 3 or 4 women that I could have potentially got engaged to sitting out there. I would say marry but I don't want to rush into anything. Very Very noteworthy salsa bar. I have been known to whip up a salsa and this place gets a major stamp of approval. Mango salsa/ tomatio with avacado are quite good.

It was hot as balls as I clomped down the street in my mega high heeled sandals, ready to runch. That is right. Runch. Not lunch. So I met thor at Tlaloc and we agreed that a pitcher of sangria was in order. I also ordered the shrimp seviche, which was served nice and cold, with a few perfect tortilla chips and three perfect cuts of lettuce. Looks meager, but its the absolute correct portions. Between the lovely little table we snagged, the nomnom food, and the fruity ice cold sangria, I was in runch hour heaven. Plus I was with Thor, which always puts the cherry on my top. We got slightly tipsy and laughed about our butt sticking out through the chairs (don't ask...we may or may not have pics). Sadly it came to a quick end when we had to return to work with the 3 o'clock wall in sight, but the knowledge that I would sit uselessly, tipsily, at my desk and write this little review. 5 stars if I could have sat there another hour with two more pitchers of the delish sangria.

Every item here is merely a delivery vehicle for the kickin salsa. Maybe the burritos are $10 because someone has to pay for my salsa habit. Fresh, delicious and tangy. That's the mango salsa I'm talking about, the food is also delicious; but really, it's all about that salsa bar.

Did I read right or is this place really opened to 3 A.M. O crap food here is good! So far I've had a the prawn and fish burrito and they were delicious. Be warned here and now. Taco's as I've been told are addictive and cost 7 bucks. Also, they have a wide variety of salsa. I found the mango just a tad bit spicy while the avocado a bit chunky for me. Tables all around but it's to accommodate the lunch crowd around the financial district. I came here once at 12:30 and was bothered between escaping the line and the drool in my mouth. Naturally I stayed and will come back ever so often. And the now I pray that in return at the A.M hours that I would not vomit out their pricy taco's.

The line before 12:00 is manageable. Once 12:01 hits, the flood gates open and the entire financial district is in here. I ALWAYS get the steak quesadilla with a small strawberry agua fresca. The strawberry agua fresca has real strawberries floating around, and probably has a pound of sugar but is too good to pass up. I tried a burrito once and it wasn't nearly as good as "Big City Wraps" (extension of Chevy's) in the Embarcadero center, so I just stick with my quesadilla. They take Visa which is nice.
